thermite burns so hot because it passes oxidation states, which releases huge energy in the form of heat- you just need enough energy to trigger the reaction, say the hot flame of magnesium

Oh, you had forget one important this - in real life thermite is diffulict to fire up. Can use sparkler, for example.

You can also use manganese (IV) dioxide instead of iron oxide, but warning: It is much more explosive!

I made thermite once. It looks really cool. Glass tube was destroyed.

If I may make a sugestion get rid of the diamond and replace it with titanium or something destroyable.

yea benedict is right the most common form of rust is Fe2O3 which is also what is used in thermire FeO2 dosent exist i dont think. Fe usaly has oxidation state of 2 or 3 not 4
