    @leeazu there is no oxygen in space, lol, and not all the time does an asteroid explode when coming with earths atmosphere, is usually just heats up to extreme temperatures and disinigrates

    @Lyra It is, as any high velocity object, if it's velocity is high enough, the object rubbing on oxygen heats it so much it combusts it, making its fire effect, so in space though, it only releases either smoke or dust, but its collision on earth explosion is because onces the asteroid hits, it spreads fire everywhere, and rocks fly everywhere at high tempature too, causing even more expanding gas and fire, causing a explosion and craters, and small ones around it too.
