    Your right schicko. in my laser I do not accelerate the protons because I want the gas so I can ignite it into fusion. if it goes plasma first it wont fuse.

    @Sandwichlizard It might be due to fusion though (like how your fusion laser 27 made plasma); in the wiki, it says that fast protons can make plasma when collided, so it might be that?

    the laser can burn insl on its own by creating plsm on impact with other protons

    @schicko, belugawhale, Cornman. if you put just insl in front of the laser it ignites all by itself. I did an experiment and even a cold proton laser will make gas when it hits the filter but usuall turns to fire which still burns the insl. the hot one of course makes hot gas and goes plasma. it looks like beam density is important to get enough gas to be effective.
