i often do a LOXY test, which is more extreme than just combusting oxygen and closer to real reentry temperatures. the heat shield did work when LOXY burned toward the bottom, like a space shuttle style, but from head on, lots of it melted and fuel tanks breached, and i'm sorry to say jeb didn't make it
Lets just say GLAS doesn't fare well with LIGH.
I'm a huge job fan #jebfansforlife #ksp
EPIC! I tryed with plasma and not melted! +1
Yeah, i know, but im not going to change it, this save is old.
Good model, but usualy u don't re-enter head on like that or you burn up. The Idea is to have a huge surface area that slows the ship down as quickly as possible after hitting the atmosphere. A stramlined shape retains its velocity of several km/s for longer and is therefore more likely to burn up. (faster=more heat)
Congrats, you have developed... a piece of metal that does not burn, tied to a model ship. +1 for the model ship, but the "heat shield" is, in my opinion, worthless. Real heat shields would need to withstand melting temperatures.
