The Cleave-Class was designed as a replacment for the aging Rupture-Class. Its twin Proton Artillery Beams annihilate anything short of a battleship, but impose a serious strain on its 3 reactors.

    so whats the in universe reasoning against the rupture? the fact a single cm of insulation blocked it? And does it still have use?
