This is an intriguing consequence of Ogsterduck's 'CRAY life' save. If you know what to do with this, please make whatever use of it you can. A more detailed explanation can be found in the save itself.

I think the application would be more to control several devices or outputs without the need for external timers and suchlike. I didn't envisage using it as data storage per se, more as a kind of script to send sparks when needed without the need for direct user involvement - it doesn't replace memory, it replaces the guy pushing all the buttons.

This is similar to Tupper's Self-Referential Formula in a way.

    Great pseudorandom generator though! :P

Using this as data storage would require some scripting outside of TPT to generate the needed starting states for given data. As far as I can think you could only have one usable end state and you would still have to have traditional memory to tell you what frame that state is at. Maybe someone else has better ideas though.

How is this at all more compact than just a byte of memory in a line?

I added a smaller grid. This one tends to stop by itself pretty quickly, so would be better for short programs. You could also network multiple grids together and integrate conventional logic circuits to make something more sophisticated.

I don't have any programming knowledge either but you are seriously helping this community with new ideas, rather than using older ones. +1 to you! This deserves frontpage.
