    oh no no this is the next gen, the back is where the eva suit attaches on and then there is a space to place things like tools, but in this case mark watney is making a large journey to the pathfinder so he straps on the battery of the rover 2 and attaches it by some HAB repairing patch so he can do double the distance. Its all in the book

    I imagined the rovers as more "complete" looking- lots of floorspace.
