Sounds like a peat deposit... I claim that land and start a colony there to do science on the ground. I also analyze surface samples in a Mobile Processing Lab, gaining 752 Science. -

Avi_ 26th Feb 2016*flips table that people think they can use steam and guns*....and the smoke would just bubble to the surface and then into the air, it would probably spread out the smoke though to make a thinner but larger smoke trail thigny.

Windspren 26th Feb 2016I use that steam engine from a while ago to make a paddleboat. They are only useful for near coastal waters, as they have a limited amount of coal. I also invent a low-profile ship that is plated with iron. It is reminescant of a submarine at the surface. During long voyages, it uses sails and a removable mast. When near shore, it switches to a steam engine and the smoke is pumped underwater for stealth.
