I start work on nuclear powered steamships. I also make a motor that runs on electricity, but I have no efficient way of generating it.

Yes, but the level of U-235 in reactor fuel is so small that it would melt down at the most.

You also detect a large number of alpha particles in the area, probably from radioactive decay.

You learn that the reactor has already been melted down, but is still warm to the touch.

Well, a nuclear weapon works by exposing one radioactive element to another in an uncontained eviroment. In a nuclear reactor you expose one radioactive element to another and have a carbon rod take most of the radiation in a contained enviroment. (basic explanation)

It won't, that's not how nuclear physics works.

I have more people sent to Kevino to quicken the studies. Let's hope it doesn't explode...

I have my scientests wearing lead lined suits rappel down the cooling tower of the reactor and enter the reactor core. They study the materials inside, and remove them for further study. We also investigate the power that the reactor outputs, and call it "electricity" On the big island, I discover a deposit of the mineral used in the reactor, and call it "uranium".

People in my country mix sulfur, saltpeter, and bits of charcoal. They use it in rituals. They act like fire works. (the percentages are 30% sulfur, 10% saltpeter, and 60% charcoal) Also while I was typing this I looked down and saw Kevino's post, good job Kevino!
