for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction: what are the wings acting upon to get movement?

An ornithopter would still be able to fly, as it is not dependent on a constant air flow for lift.

Ummmmmm, Oblit? I had plants sent to Mars for a reason. They are oxygen makers, and best of all, they don't need electricity to work! Also, I start designing an ornithopter drone to scout for resources(an ornithopter is a flying machine with flapping wings).

i just realized, the thin atmosphere on mars would render the idea of helium/hotair balloons/blimps useless. (:
