    The current avalible countries are blue and grey, blue is super weak but if you manage to fix their corruption, terorrism, overall mediocre economy, and unhappiness, you would have half of the world's oil supply and have the most populous country. Grey has the other half of the world's oil supply, and has a seed bank full of seeds from before nuclear war, as well they are in a good possition to explore caeyr.

    You can only join as one of currently existing countries, other than the citystates and the luddites (light blue). the greyish stuff is unexplored.
