This is a map of the world. I used an equirectangular projection, mapping the longitude and latitude onto the x-y plane. The colors represent the density of vegetation. I may have missed some islands because the scale couldn't allow. DECORATIONS ON!

    Powderskye: I presume it is distortion caused by different projections. As the earth is actually a sphere (Not quite, but that's a different topic.) it has to be disorted to be protected onto a map, which is two dimensional. This can be done differently, and my best guess is that's what you noticed.
