This concept is very inpratiacl. the amount of calculations needed to plot a course for this light is abslutely insane. It would be an amazing feat to find any black holes in a configuration like this and if anything effected the path of the light, which would have to travel over a MILLION light years, the whole operation would be ruined. -

All you would actually need to do to see the past is put a mirror a lightyear away. The image you see in the mirror would be 2x as many lightyears in the past -

very close to what would happen in real life, but maybe the tidal forces would launch the beam to light speed, and it would just go some years to the future. yeah.... not the most efficient ;P -

When we look into the space, we already are looking into the past, because light doesn't travel instantly
