  player4444 Annexing vast expanses of rolling hills and plains and steppes takes a lot longer than just expanding along the coast, notice how everyone's nation began to expand by hugging the coastline, because it is easy. Moving inland is a lot of DEPTH to cover, and is therefore slower.
