    Umm Consider this, his troops were bombarding your men with gunpowder bombs, the charge was DOWNHILL at pinned down masses of your soldiers who used slow-reloading muskets. Cavalry used hit and run to grind down your forces until one of your officers destroyed them. So yeah overall it was the charge that inflicted the most casualties on you with all factors considered

    Hmm, so could he figure out a way to create flamethrowers and this new "shield" as it could be rather useful against either swords or ship ramming

    Umm The experiments (conducted by your head scientist, who is a total psycho but is only in the positions because he's behind all your best technologies) include solidifying and manipulating air to create a sort of invisible shield against slow-moving projectiles. Superheating fire to create plasma before liquifying it to create a blue-tinted ultra-hot substance.
