The sun was created when a nearby star exploded. The velocity of the star's explosion cause a cloud of gas to begin to rotate. This cloud of gas started to slowly pull in to its center of mass. As the cloud of gas in the center grew, it formed a protostar. When the proto star was big enough, if began fusion and stopped pulling in as much gas. The rocks created from the cloud took millions of years to form hundreds of asteroids and dwarfs, which were the building blocks of the planets.
