NEREUS MK1 Fusion Drive by XBlueBeam
NEREUS MK1 is a preheat-breeder cycle semi-destroyable fusion drive. It runs on only water, and can function in reactor-only mode. Water is used as fuel as well as reaction mass - exhaust is composed of superheated steam and fusion waste products.

I think it's because the timing's off - the neuts fire too early, way before the deut gets injected -
