You can probably help with the overheating by replacing the TUNG with a different metal. TUNG heats up to very high temperatures when sparked enough; it's intended to emulate incandescent lightbulbs, which heat a tungsten filament to produce light. -

why is it made of tungsten and glass, it shatters with a slight touch (otherwise pretty neat contraption)
