Perth is awesome because I live there. -
When I grow up (if I don't change my mind) I might move to Santa Clara and work for intel or someone and engineer the circuits. I don't think I'll stay in Sydney though, especially because the house prices are INSANE. For a place near where I live which is right opposite a jail about 13km from the city was going for 2 million bucks. Who is going to pay 2000000 dollars to stare at a high security jail and be right on a very busy road.

Prices are high in Perth too. We have so much land, but the government isn't keen on selling it. -

I've been to Perth a few times to visit family and there sure is a lot of spare space around compared to Sydney. -

I've been to Sydney two times, and I would say it is much more exciting then Perth. e.g. we saw someone screaming at himself and then we were in a taxi, that ran into a limo (two people in black clothes got out) and then he said "you can go free of charge"... that was when we walked through the rain back to our hotel.
The WA gov. just won't release enough land...
