The solar maximus is in 2012 maybe it will send out such a powerful CME ( coronal mass ejection ) of south polarity that it will completely reverse the proper polarity of the iron core letting in solar radiation ( x-rays, ultra-violet ) which would fry not only us but the power grid. And that has a %5 chance of happening.

Why did NASA say it is likely to happen then... by that I only mean the power grid and all things electronic. The sun emits a solar storm at us every 11 years, and one is coming in 2012. They can only predict, but they say it will be very strong, and this will effect us greatly as they also said that our magnetic field is getting weaker, and it has been for thousands of years, but there comes a time when it is too weak... that is around about now. I spend half of my day reading articles about this stuff and watching documentaries -
12/21/2012 is the day when all Mayan calendar systems (There have more than one) would reset for the 5th time (5th end of the world). It is special because it is the last one.
The first four were about a disaster that turned people to some animals (e.g the world ended with a flood: people turned to fishes) -

The poles are switching in a couple thousand years anyway, it does nothing to our magnetic field. It's kinda like turning a timer upside-down. -

actually.....the Magnetic field of the earth prevents Solar Wind from destroying/shredding off earth's atmosphere.
