Pluto, a planet or not a planet.

    Lol, it's not a planet 'cause it's an oversize comet since I assume it would act like a comet if it had the same type of orbit.

    Nope, not a planet or a dwarf planet. It's a moon.

    Wrong, the sun can have moons, look it up you'll find ample scientific facts.

    You would purposely teach incorrect information to your children...

    @nmd (View Post)
    Exactly. Which is why it's a moon.

    Pluto is classified as a moon.
    That is the final say of the world's scientists.
    Therefore, it is a law of science.

    They don't have to. It doesn't matter what the minority of the people think. The scientific community says it's a moon, so that is what it is. Anyone who doesn't like it would have to classify many asteroids in the belt as "planets" if Pluto would be one as well.

    Is Pluto a planet? Does it qualify? For an object to be a planet, it needs to meet these three requirements defined by the IAU:

    1. It needs to be in orbit around the Sun – Yes, so maybe Pluto is a planet.
    2. It needs to have enough gravity to pull itself into a spherical shape – Pluto…check
    3. It needs to have “cleared the neighborhood” of its orbit – Uh oh. Here’s the rule breaker. According to this, Pluto is not a planet.

    My teacher taught me this so I guess Pluto is definitely NOT a planet.

    I'll always consider Pluto a planet. It's what I learnt in Primary school and it's what I'll always believe. I'll remember that the "official" designation of Pluto is not a planet but in my mind it always will be.
