The pattern isn't random. The circle is divided into 15 arcs of 24 degrees each. Starting at the top with the number one, and moving clockwise, the sequence of "spawning points" where the spark moves from the gold to the water is 1,12,8,4,15,11,7,3,14,10,6,2,13,9,5. That is to say the spawning point for each successive spark is 11 places, or 264 degrees, around the circle from the last. I have insomnia and may be in a wakeful dream. What?

The effect is seen because the rate of electron transfer is quicker in the metal than it is in the water. The water has some impurities, like magnesium and sodium, which help it conduct electricity.

Hmm. Using that, you could make a cool psuedo-randomiser. Shadow-Mann, could I use this? With credit? :D
