    I think Supercrafter was referring to Slotin having his finger over the hole ontop the Beryllium sphere increased the reaction rate, and as chain reactions go, probably increased the dose significantly

    So, the reason why Slotin did get an lethal dose almost instantly was because he was the closest to the core when it went critical.

    Supercrafter: Most important for the dosage you get is the distance to the radiation scource. But different body parts have different sensitivity to radiation. Most sensitive are the sexual organs, followed by the brain, the inner organs, spinal cord, bones and muscles.
