To make this work, click 6 to turn on the heat view, and you should see a geay-flashing of photons. Now blink your eyes very rapidly while looking at the beam (works better if zoomed on it).

Alright what the hell am I seeing
-
Instead of rapidly blinking, slowly move your eyes along the beam. Both directions work.
-
If you rapidly move your head and eyes the illusion vanishes.
-
no, the flashing is because some frames might take longer to render than others for some reason
-
My best guess is that your eyes cannot properly resolve the flashes when focused (normal conditions), but they do resolve them when picking few random "frames" from the rest.
-
You can see a similar effect when blinking or swiping your view rapidly on something illuminated by a projector.

Oh hey! That's cool. Hello Architect
-
if your fps is to low then use the console command --> tpt.setfpscap(2)
-
Okay... My eyes just stayed on the beam, and i see a gray beam :D
