    Bought this on clearance because my old microwave was a piece of crap. Tried cooking some Ramen noodles in my new one. It set them on fire despite the fact that they were completely covered by water. I rate it 10/10. Would set completely submerged brick of noodles on fire again.

    Yes, microwaves are a type of electromagnetic radiation emitted by the microwave's (as in the appliance) magnetron. The radiation then transfers energy to the water molecules in the food or drink. The food is rotated for even heating.

    As @TheNik said, microwaves heat from everywhere. To understand this better, imagine the waves are like PROT in powder toy. They go through everything, transferring energy in the process.
