I have no idea if this is a glitch or a feature.

  I tested it with a solid block of wood. Exactly 1 pixel of wood became SAWD, and after it dropped there was 0.00 pressure at the point of impact. Probable glitch, as it doesn't make enough sense to be a deliberate feature.

  There's no significant pressure. PHOT in itself doesn't generate any - it seems like what little pressure there is actually originates from the wood breaking.

  It's because of the pressure the beam puts on the wood.
