2/2 And we aren't doing anything at all. The front page formula is so basic I was shocked when I found out how simple it is. (If you were wondering, its votes divided by log(time since publish), with a cap at 7 days). So yeah, something more complex would be better, and eventually I do plan to change this. Just not now. I've made very very few website changes since gaining access 2 years ago.

This is getting into hate territory ... part of the reason I disabled this save. That was the problem with showing specific saves. Anyway sure, "time to shut it down" is a good catchphrase for something like this. Continuing to reply to your older comment, "disproportionate positive reinforcement" is basically how the internet works these days. You see it all the time on reddit, it's just the simple meme posts and comments getting a lot of upvotes. Specific means have to be taken to counter this

Because it was just one soap worm on a large, otherwise empty screen, with no unique value at all to add to the literal thousands of other soap worms that came before and will come after. You contributed nothing with that save. That is my perspective of it and that won't change. I have seen good soap worm saves that were unique and added value to the field of soap worms. Yours wasn't one.

Really? My soap worm? Why do you hate it so much?

Instead we get people working around it as if catering towards intelligent discussion and helping to teach others about doing the best they can or inspiring at least a little bit of awe and inspiration isn't really a good thing. They never want to talk directly about it because they know nothing about it, yet feel subconsciously threatened by it.

It's not about giving people attention for arbitrary reasons. It's not about handing out fame to people who "pioneer innovation" or people with "high" amounts of skill. It is about allowing everybody to tap into their potential and maintaining an intelligent community. Throwing modern art up onto FP is obviously a worse alternative to that, we never see anybody talking about that.
