Other world events: A meteorite strikes the ocean and sends debri into space. The ocean hit is now deeper and wider. Glaciers from a recent ice age have melted and raised the sea level back to normal heights. The dawn of civilization is here and people have began thinking and inventing. Civilization has spawned on another continent; They don't seem to agree with the other's very well.
