i think it reverts back to the "original gray color" -

Explanation: the random coloring of ROCK comes from its tmp, and when it turns into virus, some of the previous information of the particles like tmp, life,tmp2 for example, get lost. and when they get back to their original form, they no longer have this information so they will just kinda reset. correct me if im wrong. -
