its in left to right order, so 1 = the leftmost, 4 = the rightmost. To spawn a portal, press the leftmost or second leftmost button (blue or orange) to select portal mode/color. Then press the second rightmost button (grey) to fire the portal -

If you remove the signs you can find the photon generator and change the color of the portals to whatever color you want -
