    You definately thought a lot about how to make this as durable and resistant to full containment breech as possible, you can fill the entire steam exhaust stack with thermite, light it, and it will eventually stabilize, and no uran will fall into the void or escape.

    using mercury as cooling is a really good idea: hotter core -> more volume -> more cooling. Maybe you could make a self controlling reactor with this. (+1)

    i think the pump mechanism is great. If you do want it to cool more, maybe try disposing of more heat into the coolant by heating the steam. Theres a whole vertical section where the two are flowing in opposite directions, maximizing heat exchange efficiency. Just connect them.

    I think all that this needs is a second water inlet on the other side to make this able to run even without the pump mechanism
