    The dimples create eddies and vorticies as the ball flies which help trap a layer of air close to the ball. So the sir friction is reduced on the ball because it's more like air moving through air. The (placoid) scales, or dermal denticles that cover a shark's skin perfrom the same function for the shark by trapping water close to it's body.

    The explanation is a little spartan and I think you could have spent more time on the demonstration.

    Because of te limitations of PT, It was necessary to add vac to showthe affect.
