Commenting/Voting

You could make the same argument on the forums. Should we put dislikes back on here? This is just my opinion, but I find that most of the time if people don't find something interesting they just don't vote, and that disliking is used mostly just for trolling. And who knows, maybe TPT will eventually have a whole, different system than voting. But while we are still voting, I find upvoting good just for rankings sake, and dislikes troll.

I don't see why not. Add dislikes to the forum.

Removing dislikes is definitely one solution for the anonymous downvoting problem, although the truth is the server can't be changed. Nothing has changed on powdertoy.co.uk for over a year because the admin is mostly missing. So talk about it if you want, just don't expect anything to be implemented.

There could always just be a new thing where you "vote" saves off of front page but it doesn't count towards overall votes and is hidden from everyone. This would still allow for saves to be removed front front page without downvotes. Having forum users decide front page is a bad idea (most people play only in game), also anything requiring mods to pick because we are often busy and it there may be breaks of a few hours where nobody is watching.

I think experimentation would be nice ... if it were actually possible

Wow everyone like the idea (me too) other idea is to change FP manually

one person will get notification if a save got a particular amount of likes then the person who works on FP decide if the save should go to FP

I agree with @Lockheedmartin (View Post) here, most if not all valid reasons for downvoting can/should be offloaded to the report button. As a feature request, though, you should be able to undo/redo your upvotes.

It would also be interesting to see if the system logs downvotes against a user's name- that way a basic troll detection algorithim could find troll by checking a ratio of net votes i.e number of downvotes subtracted from upvotes) to the number of saves viewed. On reflection though the idea was to improve the system and a police state in TPT wouldn't feel right, but it is all very well us saying get rid of downvoting, but would the report system in its current state be a sufficient replacement or would we need to refine it slightly.

As far as I know, every downvote is stored separately. Besides, there's no other way one could detect if a user already voted on some save

oh, well it was a spurious idea anyway. I think just axing the downvote and using the system schicko suggested is the best idea.

So I go away for 2 days and a thread explodes to 5 pages in length, full of bright ideas and opinions. Woah!

Scrapping the downvotes system is good, but along with that removing all the downvotes ever given in TPT (if @simon can do that) is required to ensure fairness to previous saves, don't you think?
Without any downvotes many saves on TPT will have a much larger amount of votes....
