You know, for some reason I get terrible FPS on Minecraft Beta. It's defiantly not my laptop. Specs;
AMD Athlon II X2 P340 OC @ 2.4GHz (That's right, overclocked from 2.2GHz to 2.4GHz. At 2.6+ it got heated even with increased voltage) 8GB DDR3 RAM @ 1066MHz 320GB HDD @ 54k RPM (I know, kinda slow spin... but a 5.9 in Hard Drive section of WEI) AMD (ATi) Radeon HD 4250 w/256MB Dedicated vRAM, 3GB Shared (That still leaves 5GB for the game/ Windows) Windows 7 Professional x64
On 'Fast' Graphics setting and 'Normal' Field of View, I get ~25FPS Playing with 2 others on a 25MB Internet Connection (Me on 25MB, they're on 15MB Together).
@m16piggy The only thing I would check is drivers. I am using quad core, no overlock, GeForce graphics card, forgot the model, but its only two years old, and 4 gb ram. No issues for me.
I would also check for background programs that may be eating up your memory.
@m16piggy(View Post) I have the same problem too. I have 3 gigs of ram, an AMD core 2, and ATI Raedon graphics.
I do know what the problem is. It is your hardware. AMD cores and ATI graphics are terrible on minecraft. Solution: New computer. Unless you are willing to replace the motherboard. You would have to do it by hand though, since warranty will not cover a motherboard replacement.
A temporary fix is to turn off smooth lighting. And, if you use a Realtek HD audio software set for sound, turn off your "headphone virtualization" Then, in task manager, quit all non-vital processes. If you do not get at least 30-35 fps by now, turn fog down to short or normal. At least you will still be able to see creepers coming before it is too late.
So yeah, it is certainly your laptop. AMD processors do not work well with simulations, apparently.
