UK has a 6 month process for getting a gun licence for a single weapon.
Minimum process is:
Explaination to the police why you want a firearm.
Criminal Records Bureau and Ministry of Defence checks.
Psychological Analysis
and you need a Character Reference from most of the people who live near you.
More UK cops are being armed with Tasers now... and most of the guns recovered for fakes or replicas iirc. -
@Cr15py: I understand what your saying. and for the most part I agree. I defenatly believe that guns should be able to be sold from the average man, to the average man, with a handshake. (I don't think a licencse should be neccessary to have a licencse for a long gun). There should be a some backround check, and a licencse for handguns(which is used in most crime) But not to hard to obtain.
@antb: I DON'T think all that should be necessary. It should be much easier. Do they have to go through all that for EVERY gun you buy? -
We have a thing called the 2nd Amendment. Without the Second amendment we cant enforce the first.

Restrictions are fine, like no machine-guns or .50 Barett Rifle which is obviously not just for self defense, I agree with those. -

Automatics are allowed with FFL. as for barretts it is used for fun.

@roguegeneral-- : heh, yeah. suppose guns suddenly dissapeared. that wouldn't stop killing, that just stops shooting. How did Cain kill Abel? well we know it wasn't with a gun! wierdos will do damage somehow if they want to.Whether that be with explosives, poison, or even hand-to-hand!

for protection. If you want to watch your family get raped and\or murdered by some creep, waiting for your turn because your not armed... be me guest! by the way, puting that "my house is not armed" sign in your yard, doesn't help any.
PS: guns are also used for all sorts of sporting activitys.
