This problem is getting worse and worse! Less and less freedom. Rule overload. I remember the days a long time ago when TPT was a free game. I don't remember it being a bad game because of lack of official rules. Yes, it's good with rules for copying of saves and for people that repeatedly use abusive language, but let us talk! Let us be free to talk about banned people! Don't try to mask things up! And yes, you say that the rule of not being allowed to talk about banned users is there to prevent rumors! But if rumors start then post an official message telling us that the rumor is untrue!
I don't know about all the other users but I feel this is a shame. It is making TPT turn into a authoritarian less fun game! This rule is but one of the problems. Another less obvious problem which is harder to prove is that many of the moderators seem like they are misusing their authority! This might just be me thinking this, I don't know. But somehow a lot of the moderators seem like those short policemen that normally have no authority but because of their shiny badge they feel like they are the ruler of everyone!
I would like to say, this message is no attempt at sparking unhappiness and revolution within TPT but is merely here to show my opinion. If anyone else thinks what i am saying is a real problem please comment with what you think and also to you people that disagree, please leave a comment. Let us discuss this!
I have nothing to do with 98% of these bans. I probably know less than you guys. But I do agree that the discussion of bans resulting in a ban is in itself outright stupid.
@spyfus8(View Post) I get where you're coming from, but it's just not possible to have the liberty you want. The developers are allowing us lowly members to play the game they created, for free. They have power over all of us. At a click of a button, you can be banned forever. I do agree with you though, discussing a ban should not result in a ban.
Each rule is open to the moderator in questions opinion. I don't mind discussing bans in public, personally.
As for the rules, we started as a relatively small community, so we could afford to be more lenient towards people.
There is always one person who ruins things for the majority. We're tried to avoid imposing too many rules and only really crackdown on them when its over-running us.
Best example so far is on IRC, one user (who we cannot identify for sure due to the abuse of proxies) has been ban evading repeatedly and spamming the crap out of the channel, we've now had to lock #powder into a registered (with freenode) users only mode, we have got a control in place so users can still join us in #powder and to help them register with freenodes services.
[..] like those short policemen that normally have no authority but because of their shiny badge they feel like they are the ruler of everyone!
Thanks for the feedback guys! Much appreciated:D I am at times a bit of an anarchist... If it were up to me TPT had been in total chaos now. Yes, i understand all these rules are necessary. I just miss the old times, i guess!:)
There's no need to talk about the bans of other people, It's between the person banned, the rules and the administrators. If you get banned, you may discuss it with a member of staff, but there's no need to talk about it on the forum.
