    should delete old died and locked useless threads.

    Deleting is rather pointless, since users need the threads to be searched to double-check their suggestion.
    Archiving is better.

    I don't think space is an issue, from what I have gathered.
    It would also mean hours of work for the mods/admin to clean it all up.
    Threads aren't always locked because they are useless, they are also locked when an issue is resolved. It helps people when they can see how an existing problem has been fixed.
