    Do we have to do with Visual Studio or with SmartGit?

    No, but an IDE surely simplifies stuff.
    Git allows you to download the latest source off the web in an instant.
    Visual Studio allows you to compile The Powder Toy project effortlessly, but on Linux, make can be used instead(or find a Windows program that can use Makefiles[that's the Makefile file in the source, also the .sh files are scripts to do it for you.], I want to see that).

    SmartGit is a program used to use Git on Windows. And Git is a source-code sharing network. So nope, sorry.
