It seems that when my saves get 80+ votes everybody starts to mass down vote them. I know they still rise in up votes but they stop and people start to down vote too. I think it might be because they want to overtake my save on the front page or my save has overtaken theirs and they want theirs back in front which is just pointless and selfish my saves have taken ages to build. Or it might be they think that 2 saves on the front page at the same time is unfair. I don't blame this on everyone but just on a few. It is really annoying.
Of course they downvote them to get theirs on the front page. But their is nothing fair that can be done about it. Just be glad your saves are on the front page. Just deal with it. It happens to everyone.
Personally, when I see a save that I really like, I check out that person's other work. I think this is why having a "home page" save is valuable (or just searching for that user). There are users whose work I consistently enjoy, and so I'll always make a point of checking them out, regardless of votes. E.g. Minishooz, BuysDB, mniip, Crionis, m_shinoda, I love therocketeer's microwave and LHC, LordOfCheesecake has that really fun tunnel boring machine and I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for his new saves, so many others. I guess the votes don't really matter to me.
I think that the people that truly appreciate your work will appreciate it regardless of what's on the front page or how many votes it has. For me, the front page is just sort of a hub to see what's new. Sure, having a lot of votes is a nice bonus -- icing on the cake -- but the number of votes you have is independent of the number of people that appreciate your work.
I'm new here though so I also understand that it might not have the historical meaning to me that it has to other people that have been around longer. But, it's the internet, there's lots of noise, you have to ignore it, and random down votes are just noise. At least the comments aren't as bad as YouTube, lol.
That said, it might be cool if you could give more than one up vote (say, 1, 2, or 3 depending on how much you like it) but only one down vote.
Another system I've seen work well is a "reputation" system. The general idea here would be that as you get more votes (or whatever - could be votes on saves, "thumbs up" on forums, etc.), your reputation increases, and a higher reputation gives your votes more weight.
@cip(View Post) I down vote any save that has a link to a 'homepage'. If you want people to be able to find your stuff direct them to your profile or do what I do and put your username as a tag for all your saves.
Also if you type "user:JoshinatorKy" (or whoever) in the search bar in the game you can see all of somebody's saves, even if they didn't tag it with their name.
