You just have to learn the smallest, simplest components in whatever field you are trying to master, and then learn how to use them in combination with each other to make more complex, interesting and impressive stuff. There are very few people who can make an entire electronic device as a whole, rather than by using smaller concepts in combination (aRK, probably, but not really anyone else). But if you know how to make a basic ROM, an ARAY dot-matrix printer and a DLAY timed refresher (all of which are very simple to make with just a bit of know-how), you also know how to make a dot-matrix-font typewriter -- as long as you know how to use those individual technologies in conjunction. That just takes practice.

Wut? Oo This is exactly what I'm doing: using combining smaller concepts electronic components to make an "entire electronic device".
