I dont know if this has been reported before but, this:

the thickness of the diamond is 2 pixels everytime, yet only the top down photon beam gets rephracted.

Any explanation?

Update:
It is sufficient to even have 2 pixels of diamond, it will refract, the quartz was irrelevant.
