Some clever hackers find new, unpatched (0-day) vulnerabilities in applications. I used to learn web hacking but now I've switched to software. Reading a ton about software taught me a lot about computers. Also I don't mind you learning hacking (duh), but only as long as you do it to become a white-hat hacker.
