Ideas For Nitrogen

Since TPT is supposed to be realistic, people have been suggesting to add nitrogen into TPT for a long time since it is extremely abundent in the atmosphere. However,it has been rejected time after time because developers added LN2 and NICE carelessly,so as a result, people have used LN2 for cooling for a long time since it disappears under heat.So now if we add nitrogen, too many old saves would break.

    So what should we do?

In new snapshots,LN2 can condense on strong GLAS,which means that the LN2 must have a source, and it's pretty simple:from "Empty" element. So what if we suppose the "Nothingness" is nitrogen?

Here's my idea:nitrogen is a transparent,non-reactive gas that is compressible,so in an "Empty" screen there's full of invisible, intangible nitrogen. When we draw pixels, the original nitrogen is compressed into nearby pixels of the "Empty" element. And when we erase pixels, they just come back.As it's intangible,we can't interact with it  with the brush. We can only move it by placing/removing tangible elements.

But what use will there be with an intangible element? We can use electrolysis to obtain tangible nitrogen(LNTG,stands for"Lab Nitrogen" instead of "Liquid nitrogen").The LNTG will act like any other gas, with some nitrogen-related reactions that can be discussed later.

By "Electrolysis" in the 5th paragraph,I mean a new way for electrolysis because traditional IRON ones can break saves. We can add the powder GRPH(Graphite),which can be melted and then add IRON(also molten) to make CATH and ANOD(stands for cathode and anode). The two electrodes can carry spark in a special way to make Lab Nitrogen in the middle.

These suggestions can be too complicated for developers to carry out at once, but I hope that people can get new ideas from my thinking, and therefore make a better TPT in the future:D

Lab nitrogen could also be called UHPN (ultra high purity nitrogen). In that case, another way would be to make STOR(UHPN) instantly refill itself so long as it has an empty space around it, making STOR+PIPE an endless source of UHPN.

Or we could just do what has been suggested for years and change the name of LN2 to coolant and NICE to solid coolant (multiple abbreviations have been proposed for these elements), then we would be free to add a new LN2 and Nitrogen to tpt.

TPT is not meant to be realistic. Besides, NBLE is nitrogen.

Perhaps UHPN can liquefy into LN2 with tmp=1 (where tmp acts as a purity indicator). LN2 and NICE keep their tmp values when turning into each other, and then LN2 with tmp=1 can transform into UHPN instead of disappearing. Another possibility is that instead of having tmp=1, LN2 could have ctype=UHPN.

Probably. Now it's up to Jacob1 to decide whether to accept it(or at least some of it)

nitrogen isnt a noble gas though

You can make nitrogen using glass in a specific new snapshot or something vanilla

The primary issues with most Nitrogen suggestions is that most haven't made a convincing argument and thus not a motivating enough idea for current developers to implement into the game. Breaking saves isn't an issue (either there's compatibility flags or workarounds to making the element "good enough").

Most threads argue the addition based on realism and 'because x exists, y needs to also exist'. Both a terrible basis for arguments because they don't show actual isolated use-cases or any unique reactions. The Powder Toy never aims for realism, we don't claim to be realistic. There's more than enough engineering simulation tools out in the world to do that task. It's only just "close enough". Things that functionally work in ways that aren't unexpected, but also not predictably boring.

The final point I need to make is that we get a lot of element suggestions. Many repeats over the past decade plus that I've been around here. That becomes a problem because we get so many who come up with elements that are complex and expect twisting the idea around in one form another will result in better consideration by the developers. It's really not about that - rather everyone wants to suggest, but no one wants to put fourth the time and effort to code out their idea. Almost all of the elements and features added to the game these days are pull requests in the github repo.

NBLE = Helium, I tend to clump all the Noble gases in NBLE.
