    The solid fuse (FUSE) would become slightly warmer than fire. It would not spread fire, and would burn whatever the circomstances are. This would be useful for bombs. Apart from wood, it would generate only smoke. Plus: wood wont burn downwards.

    Wood can burn downward, but must be large width of wood
    This is not suggested before?

    yes, a SLOW burning fuse would be great. It should remain alight even 1 px wide and burning down
