Lighters

This is just something that has had me wondering for a while, why is it that the hottest burning gas used in lighters is butane? I understand why it's used(lower pressure, cheap, easily attained), but I don't see why other hotter burning gases couldn't be used(thicker shells could be used for gases such as propane, MAPP, etc). If anyone has any insight into why Butane is the hottest burning available, or other gases that could be used please comment :)

P.S. Sorry about my disorganized thoughts hadn't really thought out the thread.

    Are hotter burning gasses necessary?
It all depends on the most common use for them, and safety.

No, to travel anywhere all they need is a USB connector and internet connection.
    Get it? Silicon?

You +1, that was hilarious. But on topic, a lighter capable of melting steel would be useful, amirite? I mean, my triple torch butane lighter can rape most materials, but still... MAPP gas lighter, imagine the possibilities!

Because lighters are used for setting paper and easily flammable materials alight, they don't need to be so hot. Such a hot flame so close to it's own fuel source isn't a good idea, more expensive materials and construction are needed to overcome such issues.

Such lighters do exist, you just don't find them anywhere because they're expensive.

In some ways, it's the same reason why people use pencils or ball-point pens instead of thick permanent markers, you don't want to end up with massive notes taking up the entire page just as you don't want to burn your face or hands off when lighting a cigarette.

They exist? I've done enough searching online trying to find even a propane lighter with no luck :| Links?
