I noticed this a long time ago so i just thought i would see if anyone else did.

This is because it would require too much processing power to make it work with smaller/thinner things.
You can change this easily in the source, you just change a number. But it will make the game unplayable.

It happens with thicker lines too if your object is traveling at a high rate of speed
I made a mountain of STNE, put a nuke inside it and the STNE flew so fast that it went through about a 3 pixel thick wall
its because of the amount of frames per second

It can be avoided if you design your stuff properly.

i have noticed that occasionally particles can even get through solid walls. very hard to do, mainly I've done it with gas
